Rocking for Charity with Rockschools

January 28th, 2012

Towcester was certainly rocking last Saturday when the Mayor’s ‘Charity Rocks’ took over the Town Hall.

A great evening of top class performances and enthusiastic support that brought together ex-Rockschools students and current Rockschools bands including Andrew Clayton; Alice and Thomas Murray; Andrew Jacques, Epic Fail; Behind Closed Doors; Rachel Kirwood and D-Fault.

Drummer, Will Roberts, deserves special mention as, following back-to-back sets for Behind Closed Doors and D-Fault, he then had to get to Northampton for the semi-finals of ‘Y Factor’, at The Roadmender. He made it, apparently with 5 minutes to spare and having broken down en route!

All proceeds of the evening went to the Mayor’s chosen local charities and all performers donated their time and talent.

Behind Closed Doors Radio Interview

January 16th, 2012

Just before Christmas, Behind Closed Doors were interviewed on Radio Northants. You can hear their interview on You Tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQnIg9bK-Ds Well done guys, you come across so well. Great plug for Rockschools too – thanks!

Rockschools New Term

January 15th, 2012

Rockschools has been back a week now and, already, seasoned performers and new bands are getting stuck into rehearsing the songs they will perform at the end-of-term concert. Lots of talent and enthusiasm around as usual. We are in for a good term.

Our marketing campaign kicked off over the holidays with a leaflet drop in local towns and villages. Thanks to all those who gave up their time to help with this. There are still some areas that we would like to cover so if anyone has some spare time and could help with distributing leaflets, please contact David Taylor on 07738 974220.

The first Saturday back saw Korrozion and Behind Closed Doors playing a gig at Nether Heyford in aid of Meningitis UK. The event was organised by John Tanton, father of Mark Tanton (bassist at Rockschools) who sadly died from the disease last year. Well done to everyone! The bands played very well and their generosity in giving up so much of their time for such a good cause is an inspiration.

Happy New Year from Rockschools

January 6th, 2012

A very Happy New Year to all our students and their families, staff and followers!

I hope you all enjoyed a peaceful and relaxing Christnmas and are ready for the start of term tomorrow, Saturday 7th January 2012, in Towcester.

The word on the streets is that Rockschools is really cool! At least according to all the people, young and senior citizens alike, that we met during our Christmas and New Year marketing campaign.

So, I am looking forward enormously to hearing everyone’s news tomorrow and, of course, I am hoping for lots of new recruits in the certain knowledge that they will be made to feel at home instantly by all our current students.

See you tomorrow

Happy Christmas to all students, parents and followers

December 24th, 2011

It’s been a while since I blogged. I was stupid enough to crack a couple of ribs at the last concert while running into a door. You would think I would learn!

The second concert of term went really well and all the bands were fantastic. Many parents and students stayed to see the whole concert. Good to see the younger bands being given the opportunity to watch the older, more experienced ones.

Special awards were made to the members of Behind Closed Doors for the way they handled themselves after the loss of Mark Tanton last year, and for their tremendous fundraising on behalf of Meningitis UK. The Rockschools’ concert raffle (being drawn below) raised £90 to add to their impressive total.

Last Thursday, Bad Influence, who won the recent Battle of the Bands competition, were invited to play at the Vision Cafe Christmas celebrations. They played exceptionally well and I hope to add a picture or two very soon.

On Friday we had a visit from a lady called Natasha House from Radio Northampton who wanted to interview Behind Closed Doors for a special program the radio station is putting out next Thursday 29th December (time to be confirmed). When the boys had gone home Natasha pointed her microphone at me and I tried to explain what Rockschools is all about. I hope it made a bit of sense. Anyway please make a note to tune in. I will update the blog with the time of the show in the next few days.

Friday finished with the staff Christmas Party at the Green Man. Good to see some of the old boys back from Uni; Tom Mitson, Paul Tanton, Simon Mcgurk and Jess Miles back from her assignment in Mexico. Everyone really enjoyed themselves.
