February 9th, 2018

It is now our half-term break for Towcester Rockschool and there are no sessions or lessons on Saturdays 10 and 17 February and we will be back on Saturday 24 February.

On Sunday 4 March there is the Rotary Young Musician District Semi-Final in St. Ives, Cambs. Those taking part are:

  • Joshua Cox, Junior solo vocal
  • Joe Flannigan, Junior solo instrumental
  • TRS Junior Ensemble (Sugar Rush)
  • RS Junior Band
  • TRS Intermediate Band
  • Alanna Fisher, Senior solo instrumental
  • TRS Senior Ensemble (Black Light)

The venue is Thorndown Primary School, Hill Rise, St. Ives, PE27 6SE. It is expected that the Junior entries will play in the morning and the exact timings will be notified shortly. The Final will be on Sunday 18 March.

Our Rockschools Easter Concert will be on Saturday 24 March from 4.00 to 6.00pm.

Welcome back to Rockschools for Spring Term 2018 which began on Saturday 6 January, for 10 weeks of sessions and lessons.

Fees for the term are due and can be paid online to:

Fees are £120 for sessions, £160 for lessons and £280 for both.

Payment can also be paid by cheque to Rockschools Ltd or by cash on Saturday 13 January to Ros Miles, who will be there to collect your fees.

A reminder to all students with electric guitars, bass, keyboard or electric drums to bring their own extension lead to plug into the power breaker provided with the PA in each room.

Dates for your diaries for this term include Sunday 4 March for the Rotary District Semi-Final in St. Ives, Cambs. and Sunday 18 March for the Final.

Our Rockschools Easter Concert will be on Saturday 24 March from 4.00 to 6.00pm.

Lessons at Wappenham continue for Winter Term on week beginning Sunday 7 January.

Lessons in schools for Spring Term start on week beginning Monday 8 January.

Some guitar students have catch-up lessons on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 January and have been advised of times

We are now at the end of term and all ready for our Rockschool Christmas Concert on Saturday 9 December at Nicholas Hawksmoor School from 4.00 -6.00pm. Tickets will be available on the door at £5 for adults and all children under 18 will be free.

Refreshments will be available in the lobby and there will be tiered seating in the Hall.

Well done to all our bands and acts who took part in Brackley Rotary Club Young Musician competition last Saturday. We have several bands, ensembles and soloists who will now be playing at the semi-final in March. Our congratulations particularly to Alanna Fisher who was awarded Brackley Young Musician of the Year for her guitar solo.

We wish you all a Very Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you again at the start of our Spring Term on Saturday 6 January.

We are now approaching the end of Rockschool for this Autumn Term with a busy two weeks of music making!

On Saturday 2 December Brackley Rotary Club are holding their Young Musician of the Year competition and we have several Rockschool entries. Our Juniors have solo, ensemble and band entries, and we have an Intermediate band entry. Our Seniors have solo and ensemble entries. The venue is Magdalen College School Hall, Wayneflete Ave, Brackley, NN13 6FB. All are welcome to come and support our students. The event starts at 2.00pm, there is a small entry fee and refreshments are provided. All those taking part are asked to arrive by 1.00pm in order to prepare.

There will be the usual Rockschool sessions and lessons at Towcester for those not taking part and those who are can return to Rockschool for the second session if they would like to.

On Saturday 9 December we have our Rockschools Christmas Concert at Nicholas Hawksmoor School and this year it will be during the later part of the afternoon. All bands will take part and our Parents and Friends Association will be providing suitably festive refreshments.

October Newsletter

October 21st, 2017

We are already at half-term time and there are no Rockschools or individual tuition on Saturdays 21 and 28 October. We will be back on Saturday 4 November.

On Saturday 2 December Brackley Rotary Club are holding their Young Musician of the Year competition at Wayneflete Hall, Brackley from 2.00 pm. Please make a note of this date and I will be talking to bands and soloists after half term to decide on our Rockschools entries.

Our next big Rockschools event will be our Christmas Concert which will be on Saturday 9 December at Nicholas Hawksmoor School from 3.30 – 5.30 pm. All bands will take part and our Parents and Friends Association will be providing suitably festive refreshments.

We hope you all have a good holiday and look forward to seeing you again in November.

Welcome back to a new Rockschools Year

Registration and Family Day is on Saturday 16 September 2017 from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm at Nicholas Hawksmoor School, Towcester

We look forward to seeing you all again at our Annual Registration and Family Day, where you can meet up with friends, listen to our bands and register for the new Rockschool year.

The Parents and Friends Association will be providing ‘Tuck Shop’ and refreshments for you to enjoy whilst you register and listen to our bands.

Bands will be playing outside if the weather is fine, or inside in the school hall if need be. All students who have individual guitar, drum, piano and singing tuition are invited to come and listen to our Rockschools bands and to register to join a band themselves if not already in one.

Fees per term are:
£120 per term for bands at Rockschools
£160 per term for individual tuition at Rockschools
£280 per term for both at Rockschools
£98 per term for guitar lessons in Primary Schools

Online payment is preferred but fees can also be paid by cash on registration day.

All students will need to have a new registration form signed by parent/carer and student for this year. Forms are attached to this letter for you to print off and complete and will also be available on the day. The Rockschools Calendar is also attached.

Bands and solo acts who would like to play on the day please contact Ros Miles to reserve a practice room if required.
Please remember that although this may be a non-playing day for some, it is an important Rockschools session for all as I want to be able to discuss with each of you the band you would like to be with and plan your goals for the year with you personally.

Please note that due to health and safety requirements all electrical equipment used at Rockschools must be PAT tested. We will be providing a free PAT test for all students’ equipment during the term. All students bringing equipment must also bring their own extension lead to connect to the power breaker provided.

Our Summer Concert is on Saturday 8 July at Nicholas Hawksmoor School from 6.00 – 8.00pm. All our Rockschools Students will be taking part and this will be an informal and social occasion to which all family and friends are welcome. We are hoping the weather will continue to be warm and bands can play outside in the courtyard. Refreshments will be provided and tickets will be available on the door at £6 adults and £4 children.

· Narga

· Sugar Rush

· Suspense

Bands are shown in alphabetical order and the running order will be shown in the programme. Students in the first session can leave at 3.00pm and return at 5.30pm or stay on until the concert starts. Students in the second session will be there for the start of the concert.

There will be awards during the evening for student staff and helpers and the presentation of the Mark Tanton Memorial Shield. We would ask students, family and friends to stay throughout and enjoy all our students’ performances.

All our students having tuition at Rockschools, in schools or at Wappenham are welcome to bring family and friends to our concert.

Our Family Day for registration for our next Rockschools year will be on Saturday 16 September at Nicholas Hawksmoor School from 12.30 – 2.30pm.

Meanwhile I look forward to seeing you all at our Summer Concert on Saturday.

June Newsletter

July 1st, 2017

We are now nearly at the end of this Rockschool year and look forward to seeing you all at our Summer Concert which will now be on our revised date of Saturday 8 July at Nicholas Hawksmoor School.

All our Rockschools bands are invited to take part and final details will be advised next week. Meanwhile, if you have any specific time requirements please be sure to let Ros Miles know by this Saturday 1 July at Rockschool or on 07738 974220.

A big thank you to all bands who played at Midsummer Music at Towcester Mill on 17 June. All performances were excellent and the venue (and the weather) provided the perfect showcase for our Rockschools students.

We are in the process of checking and updating our Rockschools PAs so can all of you who kindly store a PA in the week be sure to bring it to Rockschool on Saturday 1 July, or if you are not going to be there, let me have the number of the PA you have (numbers are stencilled on the speakers).

I know several of our students are away at various events on 1 July but hope as many as possible will be at Rockschool. Our final practice session for our concert will be during the afternoon of 8 July and I will see you all then.

May 26th, 2017

We are now at our half-term break and there will be no Towcester Rockschool on Saturday 27 May and Saturday 3 June. We will be back on Saturday 10 June. There will be no guitar lessons at Wappenham for the week from 28 May and these will start again week beginning Sunday 4 June.

However, this weekend we will be busy playing at Towcester Beer Festival on Sunday 28 May, at Towcester Rugby Club from 2.00-4.00 pm and all are welcome to come and support our performers. Bands and solos playing are Arrowhead; Black Light; Epicentre; Red Eyed Viper; Sugar Rush; Hannah; Josh and Robyn. Set up is from 1.30 pm for all taking part.

We are also taking part in Midsummer Music on Saturday 17 June playing at Towcester Mill from 5.30 – 7.30 pm. All are welcome to come and listen to our bands. Those wanting to perform need to confirm that they can do so with Ros Miles before 10 June.

Our Summer Concert will be on Saturday 1 July from 6.00–9.00 pm at Nicholas Hawksmoor School and all bands will take part. Please let Ros Miles know if you have any specific time requirements.

We have been invited to take part in Music for Youth National Festival on Saturday 8 July in Birmingham. Bands who took part in live Regional Festival performances or who were entered as Recorded Entries have been asked to play at the Festival Fringe. They are Arrowhead; Black Light; Gallivants; Havok; Marshall and Black Eyed Viper. We will hire a coach for the day and we would like to invite all Towcester Rockschool students who play in any of our bands to come to Birmingham with us. We can listen to the Fringe performances, take part in music workshops and watch the National Festival Rock and Pop Concert in Birmingham Town Hall in the evening.

Meanwhile, enjoy your half-term holiday and I look forward to seeing you at Rockschool on 10 June – or on 28 May at the Beer Festival.
