Despite it being a cold, wet Easter Monday, nothing could dampen the spirit of Rockschools’ students. Instead of performing on the recreation ground as planned, the weather meant that the bands had to play inside. Lots of people crammed in to see Broken Revolution, a solo performance from Richie, George and Katie (with Akropolis’ Sam guesting on some of the songs) and Red Dragons. Red Dragons, one of Rockschools’ younger bands, gave a really gutsy performance, much to the delight of the audience, they even went back on and did a second set.

It was great to see the Mayor of Towcester, Martin Johns, and his wife attending the event with the Mayor even taking the time to have his photo taken with Emily and Brodie of Red Dragons.

A great turnout for the Triathlon in gloriously sunny weather. Rockschool bands played between 10am and 1pm with Rockschool students, Katharine and Katie in support.

A special mention for Korrozion and Behind Closed Doors who played on despite depleted numbers, stepping in for one another when required. You would never have guessed because they sounded great, as did the other bands that played.

The final Rockschools concert of the term on Saturday saw tremendous performances from all the bands. Everything ran smoothly behind the scenes too, thanks to much hard work from the staff and
great support from the Parents’ Association.

South Northants MP, Andrea Leadsom, took valuable time away from her family, after a busy week in London, to come and support all the bands and present Harrison Coleman with an award for outstanding personal development and contribution to Rockschools. Well done Harrison!

Two Rockschools students, Elmo and Connal, and their band, ‘I’m Called George’ beat off tough competition at the Live and Unsigned Regional Finals last week to go forward to the London Area Finals on 19th May where they will compete for a place in the Grand Final at the O2 Arena in July.

The band had to perform a cover and original song in three and a half minutes, so chose “Born to Die” by Lana del Rey as their cover and “Jigsaw” as their original version.
A tremendous achievement, please support them as they get closer to the O2 arena prize.
Also, Live and Unsigned have just announced that there is a prize for the most played video so let’s help them get there! Here’s the link -

Saturday’s Rockschool concert showed the versatility of its students (and teachers) at its best. An astonishing range of music, new instrumental combinations and the usual technical and musical brilliance made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Worth special mention was a performance by Katharine Gough from the band Akropolis. Usually their guitarist, she was due, in their final number, to switch between guitar and electric violin but couldn’t get any sound. The band played support until the end, but nothing. They unplugged and were about to walk off but the Rockschools audience, feeling cheated of Katharine’s performance, persuaded them back on stage. The problem was quickly fixed and Katharine’s solo wowed the audience. Well done to Katharine and the band.

One member of the audience summed up the evening afterwards:
“WOW, what a night! The musical mix last night really changed the whole vibe… a lot of acoustic acts and plenty of new material “
Andrea Leadsom, MP for South Northants, is due to attend the second concert this coming Saturday 25th March at 6pm so there is another chance to see Rockschools in action. There are a few tickets still available and this will be another ‘not-to-be-missed’ event. I hope to see you there.
